Reading is huge

<!--enpts-->sky pic<!--enpte-->The aerial photo I posted last year of the Reading festival comes up right at the top of a google image search for “Reading festival aerial photo”. Consequently a lot of people have been pilfering my bandwidth!

Somebody has finally scanned the newspaper clip sky photo of Reading 2006 which shows just how big it was! We were right at the back in the Camper Van section. Its one massive festival.

PS: Looks like Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Razorlight are headlining this year!

I work at Reading. believe me the festival has grown from one half of a field (as shown) to what it is today. I think it has some growing to do still.

During the lead up to the weekend, reading becomes a fun place. The atmosphere is electric and the expectation is fabulous. From the Tuesday before the show, the trickle of fans with their backpacks and colours ans heair or not, begins to build up to the Friday when the streets are packed with festival goers.

Even coming into the town on the Saturday presents no problem in terms of traffic and pedestrian congestion. I don’t understand this phenomenon because during the week Reading is the worst place to drive into and out of.

Also for me the best statistic is the lack of crime and pub fights over the entire duration of the festival. Yes there are some but put into context, the incidents are few.

This is a massive compliment to all the fans.

Keep it up and have fun.

I have been past the festival site a couple of times since my first comment above.

Sorry folks but in overcast conditions it looks like a cat someone threw into the pool! You cannot relate it to the fantastic sight it will be later this year.

The transformation from wet muddy fields with some cows here and there munching away to a colourful tent metropolis is staggering.

You gotta be here to see the area transform. If you do make it here, keep a look out for guys like Led Zep’s Robert Plant, Pete Townshend from The Who etc. The old boys like to go along and have a few beers and listen to the new young bands do their thing. These old rockers do give a lot of support to today’s music.

    Rock on!

Hey Rob, yeah last year the weather was awesome, I was there for 5 days of brilliant sunshine! Are you going this year, the line up looks quite good?

Haven’t decided yet BUT even if I don’t we should/could meet for a few drinks. Will email you my mobile number anyway.

Line up looks really good. All that is needed now is a guarantee for brilliant sunshine for the week. I reckon it’ll be …….(comment witheld for fear of incriminating oneself!)

Cool Rob, I’m definitely thinking of going but it will be a last minute decision. I am opening a site in Chicago at the end of August so will prbably be spending a lot of time in the States, if I’m around that weekend I will likely hook up with a few mates and blag a weekend ticket off somebody.

Just received a confirmation email that I have a Glastonbury Festival ticket. It’s going to be huge!!!!!!!!

You lucky bugger, I didn’t even bother about Glasto, too much hassle to get a ticket but obviously that is THE festival to be at this year!!

Robert, hi! You say you work at Reading. I’m a native Reading person and am desperately trying to get a chance to volunteer/work the festival this year. Can you offer any advice? I’m not gonna go with CAT or Oxfam stewarding because they cash your £155 deposit as soon as you apply which I think defeats the point!

    Many Thanks! :-)
