A worthy cause

I did a short post a little while back about a crime petition and march being organised in South Africa. Well Pat has emailed me the website and it looks very interesting. The website seems well done and it looks like a serious attempt to encourage the South African public to become more proactive about fighting crime, a worthy cause indeed, and one which I wholeheartedly support.

I am willing to support any initiative to improve the crime catastrophe in SA, if you live in SA you should be even more supportive. Check out the Victims in the Republic of South Africa site.

Hiya Dave. I haven’t been past your site in a while, and it looks great.
There was a chain sms going around the other day - basically, Tim Modise asked everyone who thought that crime was out of control to sms “yes” to a number. I forwarded the sms to everyone in my phone book and had it bounce back at me much later.

This for me is a pro-active response. And I really enjoyed the concept of an sms. All people in South Africa appear to have phones, so it’s a fantastic way of mobilising people. I’m really keen to hear the results.

Hi Jam, I think it is pretty positive as well, it remains to be seen how well they will do but something is better than nothing.

Thanks for your comments on the site, just messing around with a few templates, I also like this one so I might leave it on for a little longer than 20 minutes. Gonna be away for 5 days as of now so worried there might be bugs etc.

Bugs? The top picture in the frame looks like a windshield after flying through a bug storm!!!

Thanks for this link. I mailed it to others & printed the petition and hopefully it starts to get us more proactive.

Today some girl had her bag stolen in the street outside our office. Several bakkies of guys followed the thief, beat him to sh*t, and THEN took him to the cop shop….shows people are becoming sick of the situation to a dangerous degree.

HA HA HA HA - I like Toby’s comment!

Thank you for linking us and for all the support.
My name is Pinky, one of the virsa members. We’ll be having marches in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg on March 10th 2007; to make our president aware of the millions of South Africans suffering.
We’d like people to help as much as they can. The things we need help with are: Paper (for printing pamphlets), Printing of pamphlets, T-shirts that people can wear at the march, Volunteers to help sign petition forms and money so the volunteers can eat and have sunscreen.

We’d also like to put ads in newspapers to create awareness. There is a petition that we’d like signed too. Please go to http://www.virsa.org.za/articles/what_is_VIRSA.htm and read the things we’d like to do. Please contact us on crime@virsa.org.za
