Next week I’m flying over to Dallas for a day and then Chicago for a long weekend. I will be in the Windy City on Super Bowl Sunday which should prove pretty entertaining considering the Chicago Bears have made the final for the first time in 21 years! Gonna try and get up the Sears Tower, do a tour of Wrigley Field and maybe even do the Chicago lakefront run, a long time movie favourite route, with uninterrupted paths, shimmering water, and an impressive skyline!
Obviously I’m hitting the nightlife in Chicago hard, I’m on my own again but that hasn’t stopped me before!
PS: I am definitely stopping in for a drink at Harry Carays so I can see the Bartman Ball:
The Bartman Ball is the infamous baseball that was used by the Chicago Cubs in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series at Wrigley Field. Moises Alou tried to catch a foul ball hit by Luis Castillo of the Florida Marlins, but Cubs fan Steve Bartman, along with other fans around him, also tried to grab it. The ball was deflected into the stands, thereby allowing the Marlins to eventually score eight runs and win the game, 8-3. (The Cubs still had the lead and a chance to win after the foul ball, so that was not the lone culprit in their loss.) This forced a Game 7, in which the Marlins won, sending them to the World Series.
This incident is said to be related to the Curse of the Billy Goat, a superstition that supposedly began in 1945. On February 26, 2004, in the hope of ending the curse, the Bartman Ball, which had been purchased by Harry Caray’s restaurant owner Grant Portman or $113,824.16, was exploded to shreds in front of television cameras. MythBusters hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman provided commentary for Keith Olbermann’s coverage of the event. Harry Caray’s restaurant then used the remnants, infused in vodka and beer, to flavor a special “Foul Ball Spaghetti” then sold to about 4000 Cubs fans.

Thanks Sarah, will do although no doubt it will be almost impossible to get anywhere near it! Yeah I know its gonna be cold but surely its only as cold as New York, right?

Nuh-uh.
Forecast for Superbowl Sunday in Chi-town is max -11C. NYC is max -3. Bit academic at those temps but Chicago is always colder because of the wind howling off the lake.

I think I may need to buy myself a pair of gloves. This might be a little uncomfortable, just checked the temps for the days I’m there, snowing 2 out of the 3 days and averaging -12!! Friday is getting down below -16. I’m really not gonna enjoy this, the coldest I have been so far is -16 on xmas day 2002, summer palace, Beijing. Lets hope my personal worst is still standing come Monday!
