Round up before I leave.

In the next 24 hours I’ll be boarding a plane home to South Africa. God, it feels like I have been away for way too long. This year alone I have been to Italy, Spain, Russia, USA, Belgium, Vietnam, and Austria BUT nothing can compare to the excitement and anticipation I am feeling right now. I am looking forward to this trip BIG TIME!

Guy isn’t helping to quell my enthusiasm as I try and get through the mountain of work I need to finish before leaving. He is busy writing a series of posts entitled “What I love About South Africa - Day X”, go and check it out, brilliant, I don’t think I’ll get the time to update much when I’m home but if I do I’ll try and publish my own list, might need to put aside an entire day to do it ‘cos that list is gonna be loooooong!

Tonight is the final Albion Reunion of the year, judging by our previous antics over the years its sure to be a cracker. Just need to make sure I get the last train home…….yeah right!

Spoke to Truman last night and plans are well underway to do my Round the World in 15 days flight next year April/May.

London - Durban (Mikes wedding) - Melbourne (Tru’s wedding, MCG Collingwood v Essendon Anzac day game) - Los Angeles (See Kristin) - Las Vegas (Mayweather - De La Hoya fight) - Dallas (Work) - London!!

Oh yeah, thanks to Carla I have been Shanghaid into doing a half marathon in March next year, in Prague!!

In other news, Fred over at Ideate has had his meeting with the CEO of the International Marketing Council of South Africa. I was told I was being unpatriotic when I criticised our weak global marketing strategy but Fred echoed my sentiments in a scathingly brilliant post which resulted in the meeting yesterday with some interesting outcomes. Check it out, I won’t add my 2 cents on a technical marketing level (rather leave it to experts like Fred), but it is clear even to me that a budget of R79 million rand is not going to go very far. Dopey, Gareth, Kirk etc make sure you read it!

I was tagged by Rob the other day to write 5 things you didn’t know about me:

- I have once been put naked in the back of a police van. (read The Weekly Ale–> Brewery boys stories –> Easter 1996)

- I have never lost a game of Trivial Pursuit, Rummikub, Risk or Axis & Allies in my life, to anybody, EVER, although don’t tell anybody that or they will fabricate some story about how there was this one time…..

- I can whistle louder than anybody I know, my friends love sitting next to me a sporting events.

- I haven’t set any long term goals or plans for my life, I have no idea where I am going or where I will end up, c’est la vie!

- Nothing bad has ever happened to me in my life, I have had such a straightforward easy life that I sometimes wonder when it will one day go pear shaped, you may think that is tempting fate a little, BUT as a bonus 6th thing you didn’t know about me I will tell you that I don’t believe in fate, religion, superstition or any of that nonsense so actually I don’t give a shi*t.

Private Winch, get down and gimme 5 Things soldier!

I have recently uploaded the photos from our Twickenham afterparty, some decent photos, check them out here. Myself and Simon sat in front of some Monkey Hangers, and took great delight in reminding them that their mayor was the football team mascot H’Angus the Monkey who literally won the election on the back of his free bananas for all schoolkids campaign, guess what, he is still there after winning a landslide re-election!

I’m out, next stop London west end tonight and then Heathrow tomorrow, if you want to catch up then heres my itinerary: Jozi until the 16th Dec, Cape Town until the 21st Dec, Durbs until the 2nd Jan and finally Joburg until I fly out on the 8th Jan.

Nicked Again

I have been driving in England for over 3 years now. Until a couple of weeks ago I had not incurred a single fine or penalty, then in the space of less than 2 weeks I got 3 parking fines totalling £240 all reduced by half for paying within 14 days. Today was funny though, I had to laugh, I thought everything was supposed to come in threes and having incurred my third offence recently I thought my spate of bad luck would end. All I was doing was driving into Watford high street to the HSBC to pick up my new debit card, and I got nicked by the Old Bill in the process, they pulled me over and nailed me for 5 offences:

- Driving in pedestrian zone (I honestly didn’t realise this)
- Driving without a seatbelt
- Tax disc out of date
- Driving license address out of date
- Failure to produce insurance documents, MOT etc.

Thankfully I managed to get away with a £30 fine for the first offence. The others I had excuses for as I have paid for my disc I am still waiting for it to arrive, I took my seatbelt off because I was parking, nobody in Britain carries their documents (which allegedly the law recognises) and therefore although you are required to produce these on the spot you can also present them to your local police office within 7 days, and finally I haven’t changed my address because I am flying to SA and can’t be without my license whilst they update it (luckily they bought the last one, which was not 100% true as I moved house almost a year ago now).

At this rate I’m gonna be boracic in December what with Christmas presents, expensive golf days, Brewery Boys dinners, New Years, big parties in Durban, Cape Town, Joburg etc.
