HooliganWatch: The Power of Video!

If you want to know what the English are like abroard then you should take a squiz at this blog entry. Its a slightly sensationalist piece about a minor disturbance but I think he conveys the scene he encountered quite brilliantly. Be sure to click on the links within the story which sends you through to photos and videos of the moment. The photos capture the moment with clarity but the videos and the sound accompanying it really put you there! The song they are singing in the background is “Lets go f***ing mental, tra la la la”. There are some 200 000 England fans in Germany, not all of them behave like this squad of morons, most are out on holiday, enjoying the sunshine, the beer and the football. “Singing a song, having a laugh, walking in a German wonderland.” I really, really wish I was there.

PS: This is also a pretty good article written by an american journalist who went with the english fans from the town square to the game, as is the ritual. His story is almost identical to the one I have when we went from Rossio Square in Lisbon down to the ground for the England v Portugal game, the train was just as crowded and Terry had his wallet pickpocketed with our match tickets inside. We caught the guy and managed to get the tickets back, thanks in part to the assistance provided by some burly fans who jammed the doors of the train!
