Who said cricket was boring? This was one of the most exciting games I have seen in any sport!!
Got home today in time to catch the second half of the Australia v South Africa One Day cricket international. This was the series deciding final game held at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. South Africa succeeding in beating the Aussies and taking the series win 3-2.
Already the game has been labelled as the greatest game of all time! Australia succeeded in smashing the previous highest score innings total by reaching 434. They were then rolled over by the victorious South Africans who took the record away from the Aussies in a matter of hours by blasting a total of 438!
Check this comment by former Aussie cricketer Dean Jones made half way through the game before SA started batting.
“This knock of 434 is the greatest ever in one day cricket and might not be conquered ever. The way Australia is murdering their opponents, makes them invincible,”
Hahahahahahaha…………

Loved the Dean Jones comment, the game was insane, i heard a couple of commentators laughing at some poor bugger who thought SA could take it after the break in innings. There are still allot of disbelieving people in the Antipodes im sure.

South Africian’s and their band wagons. You guys are the worst supporters in the world. Lets not forget that SA are still a very average team that couldn’t even beat Sri Lanka only a few months ago here in Australia. Bring on the 2007 World Cup.

Hey come now Truman, surely England are the worst supporters in the world? Or is that the worst winners? Or both?

438, yeah Truman real average.

Exactly Billy, quite a few disbelieving antipodeans …ahem Truman.
Its not like we won an average game, this was the greatest game of all time and I’m sure if we had lost narrowly we’d still be saying that. In Englands case if they had lost the particulalry boring ashes no-one would have even seen or heard about cricket!

I suppose to you it was the greatest game of cricket ever. Well done, I’d be happy too if I was such a crap cricket nation. I suppose Bangladesh think beating us in a one-dayer was their best game ever too. And then England reckon beating us in the Ashes by a bee’s-dick was their best series ever. Anyone see a pattern here?
Us Aussies only have *one* collective opinion at the moment on best series in living memory. Ashes 2005.
Can’t wait for the return series.
By the way, coming from Melbourne I hate Rugby. What’s the point of getting 3 guys to shove 2 guys heads up 1 guys arse?

Oh, and just one more thing.
I admire Murily for being such a great bowler, but I can’t believe that we (Aus) seem to be the only nation that protests his action. The uni of WA has already stated that he doesn’t bowl the same as he did when they test and then cleared his action (after a quick rule change to the bending arm rules).
Do South Africans believe he chucks?

David
Alfie, I don’t think Murali’s a chucker, and if you honestly believe that wasn’t the best game ever then you probably shouldn’t be allowed out the mental institution again!

OK, I’ll qualify it as saying it was the best (unimportant one-day international) ever. I thought the semi you lost at the World Cup to Australia was better due to it’s importance, but OK, I can see where you’re coming from.
I find it interesting that more people don’t question Murily’s action. They changed the rule to allow him to bowl with an arm bend of 15 degrees and now they’re saying his doosra (spellcheck) goes way more than that.

David
One massive correction to your last response, we DREW the semi with you. You went through based on a tournament run rate!!
Murily’s action doesn’t really bother me, if he was fast bowler then I would be concerned that by him throwing the ball he gets a greater advantage than the rest. But he is a spinner, not the end of the world.

Apologies then, TIED the semi.
