Got back fom the states on Monday, in time to catch the highlights of the Oscars. It was great to see Tsotsi win the best foreign language film category. Does this make it the best ever SA movie?
Hopefully the soundtrack to the movie will increase the profile of Kwaito music around the world!
And how about Crash winning the Oscar for best film. What an average, racially antagonistic and poorly scripted movie!
Have yet to see Brokeback Mountain, Munich or Capote but want to, and will, shortly.

Are you kidding about Crash? I thought that was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. They exaggerated all of the racial issues to get the point across! I haven’t seen Brokeback Mountain or Capote either. I saw Munich and had a hard time following the movie. I wish I knew more about the subject before seeing the movie.

Kristin, I thought it was a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but I thought it was definitely average in comparison to previous Oscar winners, and even losers like LA Confidential, Saving Private Ryan etc.
I think they over exaggerated the racial issues, maybe thats what bothered me most about the movie, the way they adopted this whole self congratulatory liberalisation of racial predjudice. But then again I saw it long ago, and it didn’t make a big impact on me so I can’t really remember.

The NY Times pinged Crash with this quote:
“Not since ‘Spanglish’ –which, alas, wasn’t that long ago — has a movie been so chock-a-block with risible minority caricatures or done such a handy job of sanctioning the very stereotypes it ostensibly debunks. Welcome to the best movie of the year for people who like to say, ‘A lot of my best friends are black.’”
Like I said a lot of people enjoyed the movie but a lot of people didn’t!

I agree brother,
I thought it was average compared to past winners, but still enjoyable. Maybe it was just a bad year for the box office in general or maybe faggot horse riders should have stopped at Midnight Cowboy.
