Ok so I have promised for the last few days to write a little bit about Dubai. I have managed to put a quick photo gallery together showing some of the photographs so go check them out here

Dubai is one seriously amazing city! Its in the middle of the desert and yet it has the look and feel of a modern metropolis. I felt really comfortable in the city the whole time and even though I was on crutches I still managed to get around and do most of the things I wanted to do. The one thing I didn’t do was go and sit on a beach and go for a swim, which is a pity because the beaches are spectacular!! The people of Dubai are very multi-cultural and everyone seemed to understand and appreciate the importance of the tourist. Although at times Dubai was very frustrating because english is certainly not a widely or well spoken language!
There were a few things about Dubai that really amazed me, in particular the amount of construction across all sectors, Dubai is certainly doing it the right way, they are developing roads, infrastructure, commercial retail and obviously residential. They are currently building the biggest shopping centre in the world, the tallest building, the biggest man made island, the most expensive hotel etc etc.
Have you ever wondered where Russians go on holiday, well I hadn’t until I went to Dubai and realised that about 7 out of 10 tourists were from Russia, which explains why you don’t bump into Russians anywhere else. For some reason they love Dubai. I was the only english speaking person in my hotel, the rest were Russian.
Dubai was actually fairly cheap and I enjoyed cruising around the souks checking all the stuff out. I had no intention of buying anything ‘cos it was impossible to carry on crutches plus the temp was up near 36 deg during the day which meant carrying was totally out. Taxis were cheap and water taxis were ridiculously cheap - for 8p you get to cross the river (creek) which divides the city!!!!
The highlight of the short break was undoubtedly the desert safari. For 30 quid Mohammed came and picked me up from my hotel and took me and another russian couple out to the desert for a serious dune bashing ordeal. As the sun starts to set you head out to a desert camp where you chill out and enjoy smoking shisha, get some henna tattoos, watch some belly dancing and pig out on a traditional arabian bbq. It was a magic day out of the city! If any of you are going to Dubai drop me a line and I will give you Mohammeds contact details. He charged me half the price of the other 50 guests, and he was by far the best driver. He lead the desert expedition and his vehicle was really wicked.
So would I go back to Dubai? OF COURSE!! I am dying to see the end result of all the development and I definitely would love to have at least a week to spend there, there is still tonnes of stuff I didn’t get to do.
